We come from a tradition of boat builders<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The first shipyard in the \u201cNew World\u201d was built in 1637 by our ancestors in Salem, Massachusetts. The houses of the Gedneys who worked there are now part of the national historic trust and are a living museum to a unique type of architecture influenced by building seagoing ships.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In the early part of the last century our ancestors helped build the Weatherly, a boat that defended the America\u2019s Cup three times. <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u00a0She is now a living museum in Newport, Rhode Island where she hosted a Gedney reunion including the founder of Kitchens By Gedney, Inc., Dick Gedney, who got to sail her.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

From this tradition of craftsmanship and durability, we entered the post war boom by moving into new technologies such as electrical appliances. Back then to drive up demand for electricity, C L & P allowed customers to purchase appliances and add a small amount of the cost to their monthly electric bill.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In the late 70\u2019s Dick and his wife Pat longed to have a place of their own, and that lead them to Madison, CT where in early 1979 they opened Kitchens By Gedney, Inc. at its current 84 Bradley Road location. The business flourished in the 1980\u2019s with the purchase and expansion of the 84 Bradley property. New staff was added, our showroom grew and changed and our shop and warehouse facility expanded.<\/p>

The addition of Wood-Mode<\/a> Cabinetry as a key partner in 1980 rounded out the small yet diverse and well appointed showroom, joining Rutt and other fine cabinet lines.<\/p>

The company became adept at utilizing cabinetry design in many rooms in the home.<\/p>

In the boom and downturns of the 1990\u2019s we kept a steady hand on the tiller letting fairness and value be our compass.<\/p>

We evolved with the market ebb and flow from new construction, renovations and additions; tear downs, waterside lift-up, and remodeling. The product mix reflected this evolution, and we have fixtures and appointments to compliment our cabinet and counters.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A New Generation<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Dick\u2019s son, Rick has continued the business into the new millennium. He has continued Dick\u2019s \u201chands on\u201d style and inclusive design approach. Rick received a Masters Degree in Engineering and has been at the Madison store since the start. <\/p>

In January of 2024 a new chapter began as Rick Gedney passed the torch to Rick Brauchler. Rick has operated his local custom home building and remodeling business, Rick Brauchler Jr. & Company LLC., since 2000 and has a wealth of experience in the kitchen industry. This new opportunity gave Kitchens by Gedney additional resources we needed to service our customers even better. Rick is a Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler and his background brings a whole new level of service opportunity to the Gedney operation.<\/p>

Today we continue to move forward with the latest Auto CAD and automated budget technologies, cutting edge installation tools, and the latest in cabinet hardware and styles. We also continue to expand our established sales and design team and take pride in hosting design students from local universities through our sought-after internship program.<\/p>
